How to crush your “ME DAY” like a boss

Life can be a blur. You’re going all week, all month, and the weight of the world is starting to weigh heavy on you. You feel exhausted, irritable, overwhelmed, and your mood is approaching an all-time high. It’s been a long time since you’ve had any time to yourself and your battery is just about to run out. If you have been feeling like this lately, then it is a perfect time for you to have a “Me Day”.

What is a “Me Day” you ask? Quite simple! It is a day that is solely dedicated to YOU! A day all about YOU! A day to do whatever YOU want!

“Me Day” is excellent for when you need to take a break to refocus, regroup, and recharge your batteries.

NIGHT PREPARATION

 

Before crushing your “Me Day” you want to prep the night before so that your day will be amazing!

The night before you want to prepare your mind for the wonderful day that lies ahead. Unwind and relax from the day you’ve had. Once you have settled in, take a nice warm shower and follow up with your regular skincare regimen or nighttime routine. Have a nice soothing cup of chamomile tea or peppermint tea to help calm the nerves. Try to get to bed early so that you’re well rested. Disconnect from all devices an hour before bed, so that you can get your mind in a relaxed state.


MORNING PREPARATION

To bask in the joys of your “Me Day”, make a conscious effort to disconnect from your phone for the day. Now, you don’t have to turn your phone off because emergencies can come up, but make the effort to stay disconnected from it. Silent those notifications!

Put yourself in a positive frame of mind so that your mood is optimistic and positive for the day. You can do this by listening to a motivational video, engaging in positive self-talk. Turn your focus to having the best day possible! This will help to set the tone for the rest of the day.


NOW CRUSH YOUR “ME” DAY BY TRYING SOME OF THESE

Treat yourself to an amazing breakfast!

Rise and shine!
Hello “Me” Day!
Now that you are in that positive mind-frame and you have affirmed yourself, it is time to treat yourself to a mouth-watering breakfast. You can try a new recipe or make one of your favorite breakfast foods. Orchids and Sweet Tea has amazing, healthy, and organic recipes that will leave you feeling filled and satisfied! Get your workout on!

Yes, you heard right! Get your body moving, even if it is for 30 minutes. Put on those sneakers, and give yoga, high-intensity interval training, or strength training a try. Apart from keeping the body healthy, regular exercise is excellent for Mental Health. Here are some of the benefits:

  • It can help to reduce anxiety by releasing tension and boosting energy levels
  • It can help decrease or treat mild depression
  • It helps with coping
  • It reduces negative mood and help keep you in a positive frame of mind
  • It improves self-esteem and cognitive function
  • It can help to alleviate low self-esteem and social withdrawal
  • It is an effective way to reduce stress by releasing endorphins in the brain that will relax the body and relieve tension in the body
  • It helps to improve focus, memory, and motivation
  • It improves resilience
Pamper away!

Most of the time we are always on the go. Rushing to work, rushing to appointments, rushing to pick up the kids, rushing to beat the traffic home, rush, rush, rush. But not today! Today you are going to take that extra needed time to pamper yourself.
Here’s what to do:

  • Indulge in a full skincare regimen. Get the toners, the serums, and oils out!
  • Have a bubble bath alone. Light some scented candles, play some jazz, and soak the stress away.
  • Indulge in some meditation
  • Get your hair and nails done
  • Wear your best fancy outfit. It’s okay if you’re not going anywhere special. Still wear it!
  • Go on that date with yourself. I did it before and it was a great experience!
  • Check yourself into a hotel. You deserve it!
  • Treat yourself to the spa! Ultimate pampering!

Do something fun that you’ve always wanted to do

That thing that you’ve always to try, or that place you always wanted to go but couldn’t because there was not enough time in the day? Well, today is the day for that.

  • Have that glass of wine or tequila
  • Learn a new craft
  • Start that new project that you have been putting off
  • Binge watch a new show. One of my favorites is “Money Heist”
  • Redecorate a room
  • Go on that long drive
  • Shop till you drop (remember to budget!)

WHY IS “ME” DAY IMPORTANT?

Life is filled with many challenges that we try to overcome every day. In today’s constantly going and connected world, finding time for ourselves is something that has become so rare. We feel that wanting to have time to ourselves is denying our attention to other things that are important to us (family, friends, projects). If we keep going a mile a minute and not taking any time to breathe and invest in ourselves, it can lead to burn-out. At this point, we won’t be much help to anyone or anything.

“Me Day” is not about being selfish, it is about taking time out to disconnect from the world around you, so you can recharge your soul to be the best you.

 

 

Here are some benefits of “Me Day”:

  • It increases creative productivity
  • It gives your mind a chance to unwind and reboot
  • It gives you the chance to center yourself and refocus on preserving your identity
  • It can enhance your relationship with others
  • It improves your mental health
  • It can improve sleep quality and decrease fatigue

If you’re not able to have “Me” Day more than once a week, that’s okay. What’s important is trying to make a conscious effort to plan and crush your “Me” Day! Take time to invest in yourself, you are the only person that can preserve your soul and inner peace.

  1. I absolutely love the concept of a “me day” Rebekah! I love the idea of a nice breakfast to start it off. And I think my ME day would definitely have to involve some quality outdoor time, hiking or paddling (when my shoulder is well enough). I think a half day hike after a nice breakfast followed by a shower, massage, and a good book would be the ultimate me day! Thanks for the inspiration! ☺️
